When working in GreaterMLS, refining your search strategy can make a significant difference in the results you deliver to your clients. Understanding how to use search operators effectively allows you to broaden or narrow listings with precision, saving time while uncovering more relevant opportunities. One of the most useful tools at your disposal is the “OR” operator, which helps expand your search results across multiple criteria.

How Search Operators Work in GreaterMLS

When searching in the GreaterMLS, you can use operators such as OF, AND, OR, NOT, BETWEEN, NOT BETWEEN, IN RANGES OF etc, to specify how a field is used to display search results.

When OF is selected, the search results will include listings with the specified value. You can click on the word OF to change the operator. When OR is selected, listings that match any criteria of the field will display. When NOT OF is selected, listings with the specified value will be excluded from the search results.

When in a location field such as Municipality, City or County, You will find the OF, OR and NOT OF options directly to the right of the search criteria. To toggle back and forth you will click on the Word AND, OR and NOT of until you have the option you want to use selected.

Using OR this is perfect for clients who are open to multiple locations, property types or features. This simple adjustment helps you find more opportunities without running multiple searches. In this example attached we can see a search pulling properties from Plymouth Twp, Hamburg Twp and the City of Brighton as well as the city of Ypsilanti.

Here is another example of Searching Washtenaw County but excluding the City of Ann Arbor.

By default, List Fields use the operator OF when added to search criteria. Numeric Fields typically default to Between. Please not that field options will vary. Using these field operators will help you control your search to show what matters most to your client.
