I have earned my Bachelor’s Degree from Michigan State University, a Master's from Wayne State University, and MBA from Cornerstone University. I have also been a featured Realtor® on HGTV, a community, and human rights activist, and work tirelessly to end homelessness in our communities.

  • District 6: Nathan Boji, RE/MAX Classic
    Nathan Boji

I am running to serve as a GMAR Director because it allows me to give back to the real estate industry that has given me so much.  For nearly 25 years, I have had many vantage points on the real estate industry and I am passionate about the professionalism of our industry and the success of the brokers and agents that work hard to serve their clients.  As a Director, I will be proactively working with the other Directors to help guide GMAR in bringing the most benefit to its broker and agent members to empower them in their pursuit of success.

  • District 8: Kevin Hultgren, Real Estate One
    Kevin Hultgren

I want to be a Director because GMAR is the strongest force for Realtors® and those we serve. I am PROUD to be a member of an Association that is respected throughout the state and the nation as well. The Directors have led the way for this Association. I feel it is an honor and a privilege to serve this Association as I have, and I look forward to helping drive this Association going forward.

  • District 9: Chelsea Cain, Max Broock, Realtors®
    Chelsea Cain

Recently, I attended a leadership conference, and honestly I thought that it was going to be like many I’d been through before, a conference that inspired and encouraged you to lead, but it offered me something different, of course, the conference was inspiring and encouraging but it went deeper and it made me evaluated my whys in leadership. Why do I serve? Why do I want to be a GMAR director? Why do I do any of it?

Truthfully, without the help of this leadership conference and that this particular day was focused on mindfulness, I don't think I could have given a wholehearted answer. I'm excited to announce that it's given me some clarity and that I with all confidence can tell you my why… it’s Learning.

To set the stage of the experience: We had to go through a series of choices. You receive a paper with 80 words on it, the words are all values that great leadership has claimed as their why to leading, you must choose 10, then from that 10 choose 5, from that 5 choose 3, from 3 choose 1. One word. Let me say that again. ONE WORD….that defines your entire value as a leader and mine, was Learning.

I understand that I don’t have all the answers. I understand that I have the cliff notes version of expectations for a GMAR Director but what I can I promise you is that I will be learning, growing, and doing the absolute best I can do to serve our real estate community. I’ll be engaged, asking questions, challenging answers, and striving to learn more of how I can be most useful as a leader to you.

I could bore you with my credentials and tell you about the taps on my shoulders but honestly, I ask for your support because I want to learn how to serve you best and I know that’s my best because it’s my number one value. What did you learn today? Thank you for the opportunity to serve.

  • At Large Director: Melissa Degen, Remerica United Realty
    Melissa Degen

My name is Melissa Degen and I am running for an At Large Board of Directors Position. I believe that GMAR excels at providing its members with amazing opportunities. As a Director, I believe that we need to continue to engage our members in events like GMAR Gives Back, to encourage them to take advantage of educational programs like “That’s Legal, Isn’t It?,” and donate to RPAC to support homeowner’s rights in the communities they serve.

I will use my experiences from serving on the Membership Engagement and YPN Committees along with the Women’s Council of Realtors® as the 275 Corridor President to meet with our membership and build relationships with our affiliate partners to ensure that we continue to provide these opportunities and ensure our members are proud to be a #GreatorRealtor like I am.

  • At Large Director: Larry Henney, Remerica Hometown
    Larry Henney

Thank you for taking the time to read this message. For years through WOCAR and GMAR I’ve been fighting against unreasonable real estate regulations, banks trying to take control of our business, and predators wanting to replace us.

As a Realtor, I’ve experienced many changes to our business. Some good. Some bad. I know what works and I know what doesn’t work. If I am fortunate enough to earn your vote, I will continue to fight to keep you in the center of the real estate transaction. I just want to give back to the industry that has blessed me for the last 33 years.

  • At Large Director: Dennis Kozak, Coldwell Banker Weir Manuel
    Dennis Kozak

I believe I would be a strong candidate for the GMAR Board of Directors because of my commitment to providing excellent customer service and advocacy to all GMAR Members. As the local Realtor® Association, GMAR strives to provide programs, policies, education, support, events, political action, and government relations as it advocates for all of its members. I have a passion for providing input and leadership in policy creation and overall management of GMAR initiatives.

I know the issues of importance to the GMAR constituency and can bring matters of concern to the attention of the Association. Through my participation in GMAR committees like RPAC, Young Professionals, and Technology Committees I have had the opportunity to meet and work with many great and talented Realtors®, Affiliates, and GMAR Staff. I was Chair of the RPAC Committee in 2019 and have remained active to the present time with this committee.

I am an instructor at GMAR currently teaching Continuing Education, Code of Ethics, and New Member Orientation classes. I was instrumental in working on a team that created the course content for CE classes in 2021. I am an active member of the GMAR Public Policy Committee and participate in Candidate Interviews and on many occasions have chaired Candidate Interview Sessions. I look forward to your vote to allow me to continue my service on the Board of Directors.

  • At Large Director: Devon Smith, EXP Realty, LLC
    Devon Smith

I am excited to have the opportunity to run for a second term and to be part of the GMAR Board of Directors. In spite of the challenges the past couple of years we accomplished a lot, and I am proud to be part of the GMAR family. I am asking for your vote to continue to be a voice and an advocate for our Realtor® community. I believe that an association should continue to adapt and enhance its offerings and support for its membership. There are many that would like to limit or eliminate the Realtor® role altogether. My focus is to continue to discover ways to support our members' efforts in growing their businesses and offer tools that help keep the Realtor® at the heart of every transaction.

I hold an Associate Broker license and my extensive experience on various boards and committees makes me a great choice to continue to work hard for you! If you have any questions that you would like to discuss I am available directly at 248.444.0392.

Thank you in advance for a vote for Devon Smith - Director at Large
