GMAR Announces 2026 Placemaking Projects
GMAR Placemaking
GMAR Placemaking

GMAR is pleased to announce Placemaking Grants totaling $19,500 awarded to 4 local community projects across Southeast Michigan. These grants will support efforts to revitalize public spaces, create community gathering areas, and enhance local environments where our members work, live, and play.

Inkster – Tyrone Wheatley Park

Tyrone Wheatley Park is a community park currently undergoing construction that includes renovations to the baseball field, improvements to the basketball courts, and minor drainage upgrades.  GMAR’s funding will add additional picnic tables and grills throughout the park, including near gathering areas and under the pavilion.

Pittsfield Township – Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority Carpenter Road Bus Stops

This project upgrades five AAATA bus stops along the Carpenter Road axis with a standardized, unpowered kit and ADA-compliant landing pads.  Each stop will receive an ADA concrete pad plus a fixtures package: a basic bench (with arms/back), a single-bay windscreen, and a local artist-designed art panel.  GMAR’s funding will contribute to these accessibility updates.

Superior Township – Community Park Disc Golf Course

Community Park is establishing a new Disc Golf course for the community to promote free, diverse recreational opportunities for residents.  GMAR’s funding will support the design, fabrication, and installation of course, hole, and directional signage.

Rochester Hills – Art on Auburn

Art on Auburn 2 is a community art project that brings unique local art to the Brooklands neighborhood.  A total of 20 pieces of artwork were selected in 2024 by a jury and community members to be installed in the upcoming Brooklands Plaza.  GMAR’s funding will support the installation of art on the road surface.
