GMAR is pleased to announce Placemaking Grants totaling $25,500 awarded to six local community projects across Southeast Michigan. These grants will support efforts to revitalize public spaces, create community gathering areas, and enhance local environments for residents and visitors alike.
Washtenaw Farm Council
GMAR’s funding will support installation of an LED sign at the Farm Council grounds to promote upcoming community events, including the 4-H County Fair and the Saline Community Fair. This project will help raise awareness of local activities and encourage community engagement.
Redford Township Veterans Park Memorial
The VFW Auxiliary Post #345 will install a bronze plaque at the base of a tree planted in honor of Veterans Suicide Awareness. This memorial aims to raise awareness of the impact of veteran suicide while honoring those who have passed.
Oakland Township - Cranberry Lake Farm Historic District
This project is supported by the Historic District Commission of Oakland Township. GMAR’s funding will support installation of benches and wayfinding signage across the 16-acre property, enhancing the experience for visitors and supporting many community activities.
Canton Township - Zibiwés Nature Area
25,000 square feet of invasive grasslands at Zibiwés Nature Area will be converted into a habitat for pollinators, benefiting the park’s native plant and animal life. GMAR’s grant will help pay for seeds, sand, and supplies for the more than 45 varieties of wildflower plantings to bloom spring to fall. This project will improve the environmental health of the area by providing space for pollinating insects and animals.
Ypsilanti Food Co-op
The Ypsilanti Food Co-op will revitalize its outdoor patio to create a community gathering space with expanded seating, new tables, and enhanced greenery supported by GMAR’s Placemaking Grant. This space will serve both Co-op members and the public, providing a location for community gathering and local events.
Rochester - Scott Street Park
Scott Street Park in Rochester features a baseball field, basketball court, community garden, and trails. With a planned skate park addition, the GMAR grant will fund the purchase and installation of benches and a shade structure at the skate park.
